Crustaceans fulfill a utilitarian function in the ocean and in our reef tanks. First and foremost, they are a large food source. They also perform a major cleaning and scavenging function. Some are specialized to consume parasites and nuisances. There are many different algae types that plague our aquariums. Some common algae types are hair, turf, filamentous and film. The natural solution to eradication is adding crustaceans to consume these nuisance algaes. Therefore, we carry a wide variety of snails, conchs, shrimp, crabs, hermit crabs, etc to help control algae. Some crustaceans scavenge waste. They are also beneficial in controlling waste that could fuel algae growth. |
